Success for ‘The Buffs’ in Aid of Guide Dogs
The Shropshire Province of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB or Buffs) achieved great success during their fundraising year of 2022. They chose to support Guide Dogs for the Blind and raised an incredible £4,000.The cheque presentation took place recently at their social lunchwhere other charities were also presented with generous donations.
The Buffs are a charitable organisation who meet for mutual social enjoyment and aim to reduce social isolation. They support good causes in their local community by raising funds and help to improve the lives of people in need Eric Jones, aged 96 of the Buffs has been very active in the community during the past year with the support of volunteers from the Buffs. Activities have included supermarket collections at Morrison’s inShrewsbury &Oswestry whilst also being active further afield at theShopping Centre in Church Stoke. Eric says, “We have enjoyed the fundraising activities very much and I’ve been very keen to help thesight-loss community. I understand the impact sight-loss has on someof my fellow members and we wanted to do our best to help them.”Lindsey Rowlands, local guide dog owner and volunteer fundraiser said,
“I was astounded by the generosity of the Buffs was so pleased this donation would help the charity to support more people with sight-loss. I’ve a real partnership with my Guide Dog, Leyland who helps me to be out and about in the community and has given me back my independence. ”Eric and his fellow Buffs are keen to encourage more new members, continue their social group and help progress their charity work long into the future. Members urgently needed to prevent demise of group
Readers' letters Published: Jan 15, 2020
On January 9 The Shropshire Provincial Grand Lodge of The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes was able to present a cheque in the sum of £7,000 to Hope House Children’s Hospice.
This is the result of considerable effort by The Province with its active membership now being under 20 in number. The work to support local charities by The Buffs in Shropshire has been going on for more than a hundred years. The Buffs also of course give support to its members in time of need.
Sadly, however, this desirable situation is likely to come to an end as membership declines rapidly.
The decline and eventual demise can only be rescued by the enrolment of new members.
Men of good character over 18 years are badly needed. If you would like to play a more active part in supporting the community, supporting your fellow man and enjoy good fellowship with men of a similar mind please talk to us about enrolment. It only requires two hours a week of your time.
We also appeal to those Buffs whose membership has lapsed for whatever reason. You are still Buffs and will be particularly welcomed.
